Privacy Policy

Five Acres of Freedom ("the app") is a homestead record-keeping app for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version is unusual for a modern app, and we intend to keep it that way:

Everything you record stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.

1. What we collect

Nothing. The app has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend service operated by us. We (the developer) never receive, see, or store any of your data. We cannot read your records, we do not know who uses the app, and we hold no information about you to lose, sell, or be compelled to produce.

2. What stays on your device

Everything you enter is stored locally on your iPhone, in the app's private storage area:

• Your homestead's name and location (postal code, town, and country, if you choose to provide them)
• Your land layout: parcel dimensions, garden beds, orchard blocks, and other items you place on the homestead map
• Records you create: animals, flocks, hives, plantings, harvests, log entries, chores, planned events, production batches, sales, expenses, and customer names you enter
• Photos you attach to records (stored inside the app's private storage; the app does not modify your Photos library)
• Settings and preferences

This data never leaves your device except through Apple's standard device-backup mechanisms that you control (see §5).

3. Network services the app contacts

The app makes exactly three kinds of network requests, all optional, none carrying any account or identifier of ours:

a) Location lookup (Apple). If you enter a postal code, the app asks Apple's geocoding service (the same one Maps uses) to resolve it to a town name and map coordinates, so it can label your homestead and find your local weather. Your postal code and country are sent to Apple for this lookup. Apple's handling of this request is governed by Apple's privacy policy. If you skip entering a location, this request never happens.

b) Historical weather (Open-Meteo). To show your year's weather and derive real frost dates for planting advice, the app requests historical weather data from Open-Meteo, a weather data service. The request contains only map coordinates (derived from your postal code) and a date range — no name, no account, no device identifier. Open-Meteo's handling of requests is governed by its privacy policy. Weather results are cached on your device so repeat requests are rare. Without a location set, this request never happens.

c) In-app purchases (Apple). If you buy Five Acres Pro, the purchase runs entirely through Apple's App Store (the StoreKit system framework). Your payment details go to Apple, never to us or through the app's own code; the app receives back only Apple's signed confirmation of what you own, so it knows to unlock Pro. See §8. If you never buy anything, this request never happens.

That is the complete list. The app contacts no other servers. It contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code of any kind.

4. Device permissions

The app asks for permissions only when you use the feature that needs them, and works fully if you decline:

• Photo library / camera — only if you attach a photo to a record. Photos you attach are copied into the app's private storage. The app never scans or uploads your photo library.
• Notifications — only if you turn on reminders. All reminders are scheduled locally on your device; there is no push-notification server.

5. Backups

If you use Apple's iCloud Backup or connect your iPhone to a computer to back it up, the app's data is included in your device backup, under your Apple account and Apple's terms. That is a relationship between you and Apple; we have no access to it.

6. Your data, your control

• Export / review: all your data is on your device, in the app — and Settings → "Export to CSV" (a Pro feature) writes every table to plain files you can keep anywhere.
• Deletion: Settings → "Reset all data" erases everything the app has stored, or simply delete the app — either removes your data completely. There is no server-side copy for us to delete, because none exists.

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, delete, or port in response to a privacy-rights request (GDPR, CCPA, or similar) — the data is already entirely in your hands. You can still contact us with any privacy question at the address below.

7. Children

Five Acres of Freedom is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. Since the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

8. Purchases

The app offers an optional paid upgrade, Five Acres Pro — monthly and yearly auto-renewing subscriptions and one-time lifetime unlocks — sold as in-app purchases through Apple's App Store (see the Terms of Service for prices and renewal terms).

All payment processing is Apple's. We never receive your payment method, billing address, name, or any other identity tied to a purchase. To decide which features to unlock, the app checks your purchase entitlement on your device using Apple's StoreKit framework; no account of ours is involved and no record is created on any server of ours. Apple provides us only the standard aggregated sales reports every developer receives, which identify no individual customer. Subscription management and refunds happen in your Apple Account, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy.

9. Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices ever change — for example, if optional account sync is added in a future version — this policy will be updated before that version ships, the effective date above will change, and the app's update notes will say so plainly. New data practices will never be applied to you silently.
