Dates are the typical window for each zone's average frost dates — your own last frost can differ by a couple of weeks. Zone 10 and warmer is effectively frost-free: plant to the season, not the frost. Southern Hemisphere: shift six months.
Pea Types
- Snow · 60 days · 0.3–0.8 lbs/plant — Flat pods picked before the peas swell — the stir-fry pea (Oregon Sugar Pod, Mammoth Melting).
- Snap · 65 days · 0.5–1 lbs/plant — Crisp round pods eaten whole, peas and all (Sugar Snap, Sugar Ann) — snap like a bean.
- Shelling · 70 days · 0.3–0.6 lbs/plant — English/garden peas — shell out the sweets, compost the pods (Green Arrow, Lincoln); petit pois is a small-seeded variety.
