🦃 Black

Turkeys · breed reference

The turkey that crossed the Atlantic TWICE: taken from Mexico to Europe by the Spanish in the 1500s, bred black there (“Black Spanish,” “Norfolk Black”), and brought back with the colonists. Dark pin feathers dress a stippled carcass — the same market problem as the Cayuga duck, and part of why the whites won.
