The USDA's 1940s answer to “a turkey that fits an apartment icebox” — the best LAYER in the turkey yard and small enough for a small oven. It nearly vanished when the Broad Breasted White ate the market. NOT THE SAME BIRD as the Midget White (that one came later, out of Massachusetts, partly FROM Beltsville stock) — the commonest name mix-up in small turkeys, pinned from both entries.
