THE MOST IMPORTANT BIRD IN THIS CATALOG, and the barn's strongest conservation fact: a glossy blue-black cock with a white crest and red face, endemic to a strip of central Vietnamese forest — and NOT RELIABLY SEEN IN THE WILD SINCE 2000. Every Edwards's Pheasant alive is very likely a captive one, descended from a 1920s French collection, and the studbook-managed aviary population IS the species' survival plan.
