The smallest of the northern farm geese and one of only four AUTO-SEXING breeds here — ganders white, geese grey-saddled, from the down. Bred on the Shetland Isles to live off rough grass and seaweed with almost no grain, which is exactly what makes it the CHEAPEST GOOSE TO KEEP: it holds condition on pasture that would starve an Embden. Critically rare, and nearly every US bird traces back to a handful of imports.
