NOT A GOOSE โ Alopochen aegyptiaca is a SHELDUCK, nearer a duck than anything else in this file, and it sits in the APA's goose class by tradition rather than taxonomy (the situation the Muscovy held on the duck page before it was removed). Ornamental only: ten eggs a season, full flight, and a breeding pair aggressive enough to kill other waterfowl โ keep it on its own, never on a mixed pond. FERAL POPULATIONS are established in FLORIDA, TEXAS and CALIFORNIA and some states now restrict it; check before buying.
