THE LAYING GOOSE — 50 to 60 eggs in a season where a Toulouse gives 25, and the ONLY goose that reliably lays in its first year. Slim, swan-necked, knobbed, no dewlap (that's the African, same species). It is also the classic WEEDER goose and the classic WATCH goose: nothing crosses the yard unannounced. Buy it for eggs, grass and an alarm; skip it if you have close neighbours, because the alarm has no volume control. Rarely goes broody — set the eggs elsewhere.
