Ducks · breed reference

MALLARD MARKINGS AT THREE TIMES THE SIZE, which is the whole trick: it looks wild and cannot leave the ground. THE STRAIN MATTERS MORE THAN THE BREED — a production Rouen is a useful farm duck, a standard-bred one is a show animal that takes six to nine months to fill out. The Livestock Conservancy tracks the non-industrial birds specifically. The lighter French ROUEN CLAIR is a separate breed, not a strain of this one.
