Adele Campbell crossed a Runner onto a Rouen and a wild Mallard around 1901 and got the best laying duck there is — 250 to 340 eggs, out-laying almost every chicken, on less feed than a Leghorn. She named the colour for the army uniform. Broodiness was bred clean out: if you want ducklings you need an incubator or a Muscovy. The APA breed name is CAMPBELL.
