Dave Holderread bred it in Corvallis from 1979 for a fast-growing dual-purpose duck that SEXES ITSELF at hatch — it carries the sex-linked brown gene, so the ducklings sort by down colour. Named for the Cascades and for the buff hens. Not yet in the APA standard.
