The beekeeping year
- π First spring inspection Β· Yearly β First properly warm, still day: laying queen, brood pattern, stores, room to grow.
- π Swarm check Β· Weekly β Queen cells and crowding, right through the swarm season. Add a super before they decide for you.
- πͺ Split a hive Β· Yearly β A strong colony split is a free colony β and the best swarm control there is.
- πͺ² Mite check & treat Β· Monthly β Alcohol wash or sugar roll for a real count. Treat on the number, not the calendar.
- π― Harvest honey Β· Yearly β Pull the surplus supers in late summer β and leave them enough to winter on.
- π¬ Feed syrup or fondant Β· Yearly β Syrup while it's warm enough to take it; fondant once it isn't.
- βοΈ Winter-wrap & heft the hives Β· Yearly β Wrap, mouse guard, upper entrance. Heft the back β weight is the honest stores check.
